Your Own English & Maths Teacher

Why we are different

Boy-Studying

We offer peace of mind

All of our teachers are qualified, subject and school-stage specialists.

All of our teachers hold NESA accreditation and up-to-date Working With Children Checks.

We work with parents, carers and schools to improve learners' experiences.

We review learners' work, prior to meeting them, to swiftly identify learning gaps.

Our teachers offer unlimited support between lessons.

We use an interactive teaching platform designed to deliver lessons, not meetings!

Girl-Studying

We are mentors

Our learners are asked to provide a 'win for the week' to celebrate each lesson, along with a 'challenge of the week'. We then break down their challenge and provide tips to tackle it the next time they are faced with a similar challenge.

We support our learners' positive mental health and self-esteem.

We provide strategies to tackle obstacles outside of our lessons.

We guide our learners through their assessment and examination cycles.

We are cheerleaders

Supporting children’s positive mental health and self-esteem is at the heart of our motivation.

We celebrate learners' weekly successes both academic and personal.

We are positive and supportive reminding learners that, when they struggle with a concept, they are just not confident "yet", but they soon will be!

The development of our learners, both academically and personally, is at the forefront of what we do.

Supporting children's positive mental health and self-esteem is at the forefront of our motivation.

To improve this, learners are asked to provide a 'win for the week' to celebrate each lesson, along with a 'challenge of the week' which we break down and provide tips to tackle the next time they are faced a similar challenge.

We praise our learners regularly for their engagement and send updates home to encourage the same here.

All of our teachers are qualified, subject and examination board specialists.

We work with our learners, parents/carers and school (if desired) to support every contact they make with education and encourage their confidence.

We work alongside school curriculum plans to ensure that learning is transferable and progress is swift.

Your teacher is there for you throughout the week, between your lessons to answer questions and provide guidance and support with school and homework.

Meet the Team

Elaine Young English Tutor

Elaine

English Year 4 to adult learner.

I am a qualified secondary school English teacher with 12 years of teaching experience, including two years as a lecturer at Coventry University in the UK. I also hold an MA in Education and have diplomas in childcare and counselling.

I have tutored many students throughout my career. Working with students to identify gaps in their knowledge, demonstrate how to reach their potential by introducing a range of simple steps to studying and then implementing skills is my passion. Additionally, I work with learners to develop their critical thinking skills and confidence with unseen texts.

In my spare time I enjoy learning Spanish, reading, travelling and watching football (I am a huge Tottenham Hotspur fan!)

Sue Power English Tutor

Sue P

I am a retired, secondary school English teacher with 30 years’ experience; I now work as a part-time English teacher and tutor online. I aim to target, specifically, what a student needs to learn, whether it is a particular skill, text, or section of an exam. I set weekly homework tasks and break these down with my students in their following sessions.

I have a degree and an MA in English and hold professional teaching qualifications.

I teach English and English Literature to students from years 7-12 and am familiar with a huge range of texts. Over the past few years, I have tutored students studying a range of English courses. I often prepare students for school entrance examinations.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy reading, walking and going away in my caravan.

Jackie Newman – English Teacher

Jackie N

I specialise in teaching English to students from Years 2-10

Both my SENCO and Montessori teaching backgrounds enable me to work effectively across both school stages and with students with a variety of learning needs. I have a non-judgemental and flexible teaching style which enables me to meet the needs of my individual students and for me, improving a student's confidence, knowledge and enjoyment of the subject is central to my teaching.

My hobbies include yoga, swimming, reading for pleasure and travelling. My other skills include being trained to teach mindfulness.

Emma B – Maths and English Teacher

Emma B

I am a qualified primary teacher and love providing tuition to students outside of my school teaching time. I have Mastery Maths training and was the maths lead at my previous school.

I also love English and the creativity it can give children. I especially love using diverse texts in my lessons to support students’ reading, writing and vocabulary development and broaden their literary knowledge. I am currently the Art and Design Technology lead at my school and enjoy preparing lessons that allow children to use different materials and utilise their imaginations.

In my spare time, I enjoy going to the gym, eating out and travelling. I like to take every opportunity I can to explore new cultures and bring this to the classroom. I have a fun teaching style and really thrive on children smiling and having fun while learning. I motivate children to be creative in their learning while still maintaining high expectations.

I love supporting students from Years 4-10 with the core subjects of maths and English, but I especially enjoy teaching secondary English which is my specialism! I make sure to keep my sessions light, full of rewards and fully differentiated to support students’ learning styles and additional needs.

In my spare time, I enjoy baking, walking my dog and watching documentaries which I enjoy discussing with my students to help their application of our learning into real-life contexts.

Mary-Jane Maths Tutor

Mary-Jane C

I am a qualified secondary school maths teacher who also teaches politics and law. I have experience teaching all year groups from Year 7 upwards. Maths can be a challenging subject for many people and a little extra help can go a long way. Over the past few years, I have had the privilege to help many students achieve their goals.

I am enthusiastic not only about students’ development and progression in maths, but also their confidence. I use interactive teaching methods to engage students along with lots of visual resources and manipulatives to encourage student participation in sessions.

In my spare time, I like to read, hike and go travelling.

Rob – English and Maths Tutor

Rob P

I am a nurturing professional educator with a degree in Initial Teacher Education and full teacher accreditation.

My journey in education began with junior sports coaching in North Wales. From there, I went on to the University of Worcester in the UK, where I gained a first class degree.

My time in the classroom has focused on Years 6-10 but I also enjoy teaching our younger learners.

Having worked with a large range of children and in a variety of educational settings, I can draw on my varied experiences in teaching to educate professionally and with passion. I enjoy promoting children to become confident individuals who enjoy their learning.

I particularly enjoy teaching maths, however, find all subjects intriguing and interesting, and I hope to pass on this enthusiasm for knowledge to all of my students.
